Ted Tomson

Candidate for the 33rd district in The Pennsylvania House of Representatives

I am a life long resident of the Allegheny Valley and have resided in Fawn Township for over 20 years. I am a small business owner, partnering with my family at Tomson Scrap Metal, a recycling center in Brackenridge and Natrona and at Lernerville Speedway, a dirt car race track in Sarver. I graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and from Carnegie Mellon University with a Master of Science in Public Policy and Management. Through my profession and personally, I have been involved in our community in various ways, either by financial support and/or being active in community causes. Because of my understanding of all the communities in the 33rd district of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, I feel I can deliver to our district the government support needed to allow our region to thrive. I thank you very much for your support.

My fellow constituents of the 33rd district of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. I am running to be your state representative. I am a life long resident of the Allegheny Valley and have been serving you for 20 plus years as a small business owner. I feel I can be a great asset for our community as our representative. Through my personal and professional experience, I know our district very well. For instance, there are areas that want economic development, but not entire commercialization of their quiet terrain. Conversely, those living in Natrona Heights and Sharpsburg would love to see their commercial centers thriving again. I believe that each member of our community has the right to live their life to full measure and as a state legislator that is what I aspire to deliver. Here are a few issues I feel are very important to succeed in this goal.

The Importance of Natural Resources

It is important for Pennsylvania, especially in the southwest, to continue to tap into natural resources. Government support to help unleash our energy potential will not only benefit the U.S. on the world stage, but will be a key driver of our state economy. Supporting the production of coal, oil, and natural gas will secure well paying jobs for Pennsylvanians which foster growth in our local economies.

First Responders

A solution to having a strong and thriving community, is by supporting those that protect and serve that community. It is imperative that our police, fire rescue, and EMS have the training and resources to do their jobs. They face a lot of strife in the line of duty, and dealing with legislative government shouldn’t be one of them. Working towards meeting their needs to save, protect and serve with the highest capability should be. When a community member needs fire rescue, an ambulance, or is a victim of crime, we can’t have our first responders fail to do their jobs because legislative government failed to do theirs.

Economy

Small business is the backbone of every economy. For our economy in Pennsylvania to grow, we must make the path to success an easier one for Pennsylvania’s small businesses. The focus needs to be on how government can help a small business succeed. Especially in the 33rd district, we need our commercial centers thriving again. By rebuilding infrastructure through government and private industry improvements that support high paying jobs and assist small businesses, we can restore the economic benefits and influence our district once enjoyed.  That is why I will consider it a function of my job to figure out how government and business can look at each other as partners instead of adversaries.

Election Reform

It is important as lawmakers that we make sure that every citizen’s voice is heard through the ballot box. In instances where a voter simply can not be present at the voting booth because of extenuating circumstances, I don’t want that person’s voice being denied. That being said I support the maintaining of the integrity of the election process and that we need to discuss appropriate and fair ways that we can uphold a standard where everyone feels confident in its results. Losing faith in our election process is one of the biggest detriments democracy could suffer. As your state representative I will work for reasonable policies that deliver results in a timely matter.

Opioid Crisis

The opioid crisis is still affecting many families, from the affluent to the disenfranchised. A lot of politicians seemed to have moved on from this issue and decided to highlight other political footballs, but it is still present and it is still wreaking havoc on all of us. We need to pick this flag back up and continue to show the importance of its awareness. Because a lot of our other issues such as the economy, crime, and education among others, can be solved by tackling this epidemic.

The Importance of Broadband

I feel it is important to bring reliable and affordable high speed broadband to all Pennsylvanians. Developing vibrant digital economies is more important now than ever before. Especially due to the fact that small businesses are the life blood of rural communities. By bringing digital opportunities to these unserved and underserved regions, will only help our district and the rest of Pennsylvania grow.
